About us…

Structural Design Partnership was formed in 1974 to offer a comprehensive structural and civil engineering consultancy to Architects, Developers and Local Authorities.

The practice was incorporated in 1991, and the trading name abbreviated in 1998. The Company is now well established with a wide range of clients and extensive in-house expertise in all aspects of structural and civil engineering design.

All projects are controlled and administered by a director who provides active support to the project and a valuable link between the client and the design team. Work is allocated within the Company to senior engineers and technicians who control schemes on a day by day basis. CAD draughtsmen are used as further support to design teams where necessary.

Our surveying department ( SDP Surveys ), also established in 1974, is also based at our head office in St Albans.

In 1999 a southern office was opened in Christchurch, to service clients in the southern region.

We are long standing users of PDS by Causeway for ground modelling and infrastructure design directly in the 2D/3D CAD environment. For drainage calculations, again we are long standing users of Microdrainage, and more recently with it’s introduction, Causeway Flow.

Structural Engineering

We provide a full range of professional structural engineering services, specialising in the design and analysis of new buildings in both the residential and commercial sectors. Our engineers are experienced in design of a diverse range of structures in steel, concrete, masonry and timber.

We also advise on refurbishment, restoration and repair of existing buildings.

We utilise industry standard software systems for reinforced concrete design and finite element analysis, including CADS RC and SCIA. Our highly skilled CAD draughtsmen use Autodesk AutoCAD for the majority of our digital output. We are long term subscribers to Autodesk products and have access to a raft of software through AEC collections. We are also leading on some projects in the BIM environment and have developed excellent skills with Revit in 3D.

Surveying

SDP Surveys is the surveying department of SDP Consulting Engineers. We provide surveying services to all of our engineering clients, as well as offering general practice surveying disciplines to architects, designers, house builders, housing associations, local authorities and private individuals.
